Yes, Men Can Have Low Bone Mineral Density, Too | But Can Jump Training Really Keep up W/ Resistance Training as a Bone Builder For Rel. Young Men W/ Low BMD?

In view of the fact that there are women in the photos, it should be obvious that these are not the study subjects ;-) Rope skipping is probably not exactly the exercise you'd be thinking of when it comes to bigger or I should say stronger bones, right? You'd think of squats, of deadlifts of farmers' walks - all the exercises where you can and have to move large amounts of weight - weight bearing exercises that is, those exercises of which studies in post-menopausal women of whom you'd expect them to have low bone mass show that they are effective bone builders (Bassey. 1995; Etherington. 1996; Dalsky. 1998). Well, I have to admit that I was similarly surprised when I read that jumping had a similar beneficial effect on the bones as resistance training in relatively young (25-60 year-old) male subjects in a recent study from the University of Missouri  (Horton. 2015). No, high  protein intakes  won't make your bones brittle. Here's why ! Protein Timi...

High Protein Diets, Acid Load, Calcium Loss, Osteoporosis and a 50% Increase in Diabetes Risk - Is There a Link?

Shouldn't it be obvious that the "happy medium" must be the solution, when high protein leads to brittle bones, and low protein to frail muscle? Sure! But where is this "happy medium"? Some of you may remember my recent Facebook post "High Protein Diet in the Firing Line. Rodent Study Says: Kidneys Are at Risk". It was based on a press release you could read on all the major science-news outlets on the Internet; a press release that will give the average reader the impression that the corresponding study by Aparicio et al. would "prove" that high protein diets will ruin your kidneys and eventually jeopardize your health ( read more ). Another paper (Cao. 2014), Jose Antonio, the CEO of the ISSN and the editor of the ISSN's journal posted on Facebook yesterday, didn't get as much media attention, though. No wonder, the message of this study is after all not in line with one of the fundamental arguments you will hear, whenever y...

"80-85% 1RM, 6-10 Reps"? Changes in Muscle Fiber-Type in Response to Classic, Super Slow and Light Training Confirm "Old School Training" Rules and Will Always Prevail!

Image 1: If you don't want to be strong and look good naked, you better not train like "old school" like Arnold, Franco Columbu (img), Dave Draper, Frank Zane & Co. Although, I do assume that you just dropped everything, went home from work early, or simply did not leave the house at all to be able to listen to my appearance on Carl Lanore's Super Human Radio , yesterday, I know that sometimes more important things (whatever that may be) get into one's way and will thusly give you a second chance, today (click here to download the podcast )... well, so far for the humorous part of this post. Assuming that by now, you did listen to the podcast you should remember that I promised to have something about exercise and strength training in the news, today. And as Carl will probably assert, Super Humans usually stick to their promises, although - and I did mention that yesterday, as well - the number of significant studies, i.e. studies that do not involve ...
