Can Stevia Help You Ward Off Type II Diabetes? A Review

Image
Unfortunately, it is not even clear if you need the "white stuff", i.e. pure steviosides, whole leaves of leaf-extracts to maximize the anti-diabetic effects of stevia. What is clear, though, is that there's still a lot of research to be done. "Can Stevia Help You Ward Off Type II Diabetes?" That's not just the title of today's SuppVersity  article, it is also the research question of a recent paper by Esteves A.F. dos Santos from Farmácia Progresso  (dos Santos. 2016). An interesting question with an obvious answer: if you replace  sugar in your diet with stevia, it will help. Now, you know that this would not be worth discussing in a SuppVersity  article of its own. What is  worth discussing, though, is that stevia contains "compounds and other substance obtained from stevioside hydrolyses" (dos Santos. 2016) such as isoteviol  of which studies show that they can be used as 'active' diabetes treatments - meaning: they help, eve...

Asparagus Extract Tops Anti-Diabetes Drug Glibenclamide. Plus: Dozens of Add. Health Benefits - From Aphrodisiac to Anti-Hangover & from Neuroprotection to Anti-Aging

Coho salmon, shrimp and asparagus with melted butter - better than any diabetes drug ;-) Within the last couple of weeks, I have been moving news-items like this one into the " On Short Notice "  category, or simply totally discarded the dozen or so "herb XYZ" or "extract ABC ameliorates hypoglycemia in rodent model of type II diabetes" papers that are published on a weekly basis. The mere number of studies on whatever exotic, herb, spice or isolated polyphenol from the most remote areas (usually in Asia) the names of which I often even have heard about before, is simply too large to cover them all... and let's be honest: In the end, it's also downright boring to read about stuff that decreases blood glucose in a rodent model to a miniscule extend, when you already know that chances that you ever get your hands on a significant amount of that are zero, right? There are however, two good reasons, why Rahman Md. Hafizur, Nurul Kabir and Sidra ...

Stevia - So Much More Than Just a Natural Sweetener: Combination "Therapy" With Stevia and Fenugreek as Effective as Common Diabetes Drug!

Image 1: Nature vs. Pharma. Leavs and seeds vs. chemicals - guess who will win! I have been wondering for quite some time now, why I, as a resident of the European Union, do still have to use my hair-care products to sweeten my tea, my yogurt, or whatever else , if I do want to avoid artificial sweeteners or the good, or I should say, "bad" old table sugar... for those of you who are now wondering how hair-care products relate to my sweet tooth - here in Europe, Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has still not been approved as a food additive, so that the myriad of health-food shops carrying respective products simply relabel them as "hair-care" or "cosmetic products, not intended for internal application"... and as a obedient citizen I would, of course, never even remotely consider ingesting a product such as stevia that is so utterly natural and genetically unmodified that it must be harmful ;-) A pros pos harmful: As it turns out, stevia could in fact be ...
