Want to HIIT it, but Hate Sprinting? 4-Minute-HIIT-Workout using Burpees, Mountain Climbers, Squats + Thrusts w/ 3-kg Dumbbells, and Jumping Jacks Works Almost as Well

Guys, you can benefit from bodyweight exercises, too - not just when traveling! Running ain't for everyone. I know that, ... So, if you've sustained an injury that keeps you from all-out sprints, or you simply hate sprinting, altogether, it would appear as if high-intensity interval training ( HIIT ), the time saving and in several aspects, such as the effects on post-workout oxygen consumption, superior version of "cardio" was not for you. Wrong. I belong to the group of people who are not really into sprinting, so, as mentioned before , I like using a rowing ergometer for my HIIT sessions and if that doesn't sound appealing to you, either, what about some whole body + body weight exercises? Not Making Progress? New RCT: 'Personal Training' Sheds Twice as Much Body Fat and Quadruples Muscle Gains...

Image
Certainly not a photo from the study. I have to admit that I have never even remotely thought about hiring a personal trainer or coach. A mistake? Well, unlike the lives of the obese subjects in a recent study from the Western State Colorado University  (Dalleck. 2016), my life does not depend on it and still, with my tendency to always do too much instead of too little, I am almost certain that I would have made similarly larger strides towards my personal training goals as the sedentary male and female subjects in the previously alluded to recently published study. One important feature of both training protocols is that they implement periodization schemes. 30% More on the Big Three: Squat, DL, BP! Mix Things Up to Make Extra-Gains Linear vs. Undulating Periodization 12% Body Fat in 12 Weeks W/ Periodization Detraining + Periodization - How to? Tapering 101 - Learn How It's Done! GVT -- Too Much Volume!? Only Trunk / Legs, and Triceps, not Pecs, Biceps or Back Benefit from Doing 10 vs. 5 Sets

Image
Bad news, bros. The biceps suffers when you increase your volume. Your legs, however, need extra hammering. German Volume Training (GVT) , or the "10 sets method", has been used for decades by weightlifters to increase muscle mass. I've used it before and I guess many of you will have tried this allegedly tried and proven method, as well. "Allegedly proven"? Yes, you read me right. In spite of the fact that it has been around for decades, Amirthalingam et al., the authors of a soon-to-be-published paper in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research claim that, "to date, no study has directly examined the training adaptations following GVT" (Amirthalingam. 2016). The purpose of Amirthalingam's latest study was thus to investigate the effect of a modified GVT intervention on muscular hypertrophy and strength. Low(er) Carb Crossfitters May be Missing Out | 11.1% vs. 4% Rep Increase With 6-8g/kg CHO in 12-Min Rohoi Benchmark

Image
If there's one thing all crossfit WODs have in common it's their profoundly anaerobic, meaning glucose burning, nature I don't care if you love or hate Crossfit. Why's that? "Liking" has nothing to do with science and science tells us that CrossFit is a highly demanding continuously glycogenolytic workout. In other words: while you will be burning fat, as well, the Crossfit workouts are mainly powered by glucose / glycogen. Accordingly, scientists from the University of New Mexico , the California State and the Kennesaw State University speculated that with glucose / glycogen being the main energy resource crossfitters are using, adequate (or high) carbohydrate intakes may be "even more crucial to performance" for crossfitters than it is for other athletes. Polarized training? Find out more... Does concurrent / concomitant training intensity distribution matter? Unless you're a first timer at the SuppVersity  you will have read at least two or three previous articles of mine about studies investigating the effects of concurrent training, i.e. the combination of strength and  cardio  training, (i.e. concomitant training) here . If you recall the results, you will know that previous research has demonstrated the influence of intensity distribution on strength endurance training adaptations.
