Buying, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing: Coffee 101 -- How to Do it to Get the Optimal Stimulant and/or Health Effects

Image
Don't worry you don't need a $10,000 machine to brew a better coffee. Yeah, I know this is not the first article you've read to tell you how to brew the optimal coffee , I am pretty sure, however, that it's the first to define optimal  by different, objectively measurable criteria such as the caffeine content, the amount of healthy chlorogenic acid in the brew, or the effect on blood lipids... sounds interesting? Well, let's take a look at the not exactly all-encompassing data I came up with after dozens of hours I spend on Google Scholar and PubMed... what? Well, ok, maybe it were not so many dozens, after all ;-) You can learn more about coffee and caffeine at the SuppVersity For Caffeine, Timing Matters! 45 Min or More? DMAA / OxyElitePro - The Good, the Bad and the Downright Ugly - More Powerful (+180% Perf.) Than You'd Think, but ...

Image
Back in the day, when the original Oxy-ELITE Pro was pulled from the market, people paid crazy amounts of money for the bottles that were left on Ebay - a big mistake! Not because it would fry your liver, but rather because it's ' stim ' effects will - just as those of other DMAA products - turn against you, w/ chronic use.  You may (rightly) be asking yourselves, why I am addressing an (albeit famous) supplement that is no longer on the market in 2016 blog post. Well, the answer is simple. I still see people whining about how "awesome" this product was all over the web. People who wish that DMAA and OxyElitePro would come back and people who would be willing to spend at least 5x the original price for the few (long expired) bottles that appear to be traded on the black market. It's those people I want to advice: Even if you ascribe the liver damage as the result of stupid overdosing and acknowledge that other products appear to be far worse (GarcĂa-Cort...

2-aminoisoheptane aka DMHA or Octadrine, a Legit DMAA Successor? Structure, Effects & Sides Suggest: "Maybe"

Image
DMHA is rather a stim than a fat burner. But I guess it will be marketed as both. If you are following the supplement market closely, you will have seen the first products with a new stimulant on the shelves. 2-aminoisoheptane or DMHA - a supposedly worthy successor to DMAA aka "geranamine" (the stuff in the old Jacked3D) with unquestionable structural similarities to the original banned stimulant and a questionable efficacy and safety profile. With two other non-OTC agents that have been (ab)used to lose body fat for decades, namely ephedrine and clenbuterol, DMHA, which is also called octadrine and correctly labeled "2-amino-6-methylheptane" shares a history as an asthma agent (Monroe. 1947). DMHA will be banned, when this article is a SV Classic and caffeine  again the stim of choice For Caffeine, Timing Matters! 45 Min or More? Non-Stimulant, Non-Effective?! Can Non-Stimulant Dietary Herbal Supplements Boost Your Resting Metabolic Rate?

Image
There are two types of alleged fat burners: Type I are the stimulants with proven beneficial effects on you resting metabolic rate and beneficial "side effects" on energy levels and (reduced) appetite. Type II are non-stimulant "fat burners". Two of those have been tested in a recent study ... learn what the study says. Amanda J. Salacinski, Steven M. Howell, Danielle L. Hill, & Steven M. Mauk, researchers from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education  at the Nothern Illinois University didn't miss that weight loss supplements are becoming increasingly popular - even in people with with chronic diseases (usually as a consequence of obesity). Even in healthy individuals, the list of side effects that have been reported for the various fat burners is long (Salacinski et al. highlight G.I. distress, and liver inflammation, which may accompany weight loss resulting from chronic supplementa-tion, in particular)... and while it is long, very lon...
