Sucralose: Study Seems to Confirm Pro-Diabetic Effects (-18% Reduced Insulin Sensitivity in 2 Weeks) of Realistic Amounts of Sucralose in Humans - What's the Verdict?

Image
What's the verdict on sucralose? You will have read it in the SuppVersity news on Facebook ( Sunday, September 16, 2018 ): Scientists from the  Unidad de Investigación en Enfermedades Metabólicas, Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán  in Mexico City are the first to present  somewhat convincing evidence that the insulin sensitivity of healthy individuals can deteriorate (at least transiently) within only 14 days of consuming a high but realistic amount of sucralose (2.25mg/kg total) with every of your three main meals. Today, sucralose, which has been pulled from the diet drinks of the biggest players in the beverage industry, i.e. Pepsi and Coke (allegedly because people didn't like it - conspiracy theorists listen up ;-), is still used in selected diet drinks, diet sodas, flavored iced teas, fruit-flavored waters, hot chocolate, as well as various sweetened condiments, dairy products, chewing gums, candy and your supplements ...

Interesting: D-Allulose Promotes Fat Loss - Not Compared to Sugar, but Compared to Non-Caloric Sweeteners

Image
The reduction in belly fat was significant - in the absence of dieting and compared to another zero-calorie sweetener, that is. D-Allulose is one of those purported weight loss agents with an impressive research record from rodent studies. Now, a recent human trial suggests: it may work in overweight men and women, too. With it being one of the newer sugar substitutes, you may not be familiar with d-allulose (also called d-psicose ). So, here's the gist: It's the C-3 epimer of d-fructose, has (only) 70% of the sweetness of sucrose and ZERO calories (well, almost) ... ah, and did I say that it's rarely found in nature. Sugar - The Brainfood That's Making You Dumb | Surprise: Fructose and Artificial Sweeteners are Not a Problem!

Image
None of these qualifies as "brain booster". A few years ago the results of a recent study from New Zealand would probably have made the mainstream news: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over experimental design was used. "Results revealed that ingestion of glucose and sucrose led to poorer performances on the assessed tasks as opposed to fructose and the placebo" (Ginieis 2017). These days, however, sugar is everyone's boogieman, anyway. It is thus unlikely that you will read about Rachel Ginieis paper anywhere else, but here - and that despite the fact that its results could have a profound influence on your cognitive abilities. Update on GAINZ: More Muscle & Strength W/ Exercises You Like | Deadlifting Unshoed NO Power Booster | 50% Sugar NOT Anti-Anabolic | Cryotherapy NO Recovery Boost

Image
No, bro - Losing your shoes won't allow you to magically lift thrice your BW when your current 1-RM is only twice your BW. Who would have thought that? If trained subjects are allowed to chose their 'favorite' exercises (or those they deem most productive) they gain 63% more lean mass in a realistic 9-week study (difference short of sign., though). I guess compared to this result from a recent study from the  University of Tampa , the realizations that deadlifting unshoed doesn't seem to provide a systematic benefit, that sugar does not - if protein intake is adequate - negatively affect anabolism, and that local cryotherapy doesn't just threaten the adaptational processes that occur after your workouts are rather expected results... results that were IMHO still worth summarizing in this October 2017 Suppversity "Update on GAINZ" ;-) If you want to update YOUR gains, try creatine -monohydrate - safe and proven! Creatine Doubles 'Ur GainZ! ...
