5% Faster W/ 135ml of Red Blood Cells - Transfusion Works Within 2h! Plus: ~1.5g/kg = Optimal PWO Protein Intake for Protein Synthesis in Females - SV November Short News

Image
Welcome to today's installment of " on short notice " You may remember from the SuppVersity news on Facebook that the use of cobalt supplements can indeed (as it has long been touted and doubted) have similar effects as EPO ( Hoffmeister 2018 ). Yet while the study by Hoffmeister et al. showed that the VO2max correlated significantly with the 2% increase in Hemoglobin in response to the ingestion of  5 mg of ionized Co2+ for 3 weeks, an acute performance-enhancing effect was neither tested nor observed in the German study. That's in contrast to autologous (=your own) blood infusions. A simple injection of only ~135 ml of red blood cells that were previously isolated from 450 ml of your own blood 2h before training or competition will improve your endurance performance by 5%, ... according to the latest study from the  University of Copenhagen  ( Bejder 2018 ). High-protein diets are much safer than some 'experts' say, but there are things to cons...

9/15 Berberine Supps (Names Included) on the US Market Contain More/Less Berberine Than the Label Says - Fraud?

Berberine is a yellow-colored alkaloid compound found in several different plants, including European barberry, goldenseal, goldthread, Oregon grape, Phellodendron, and tree turmeric. Eventually, neither of the two insights from a recent paper in the Journal of Dietary Supplements  can really surprise you: the majority of berberine supplements doesn't contain the amount of active ingredient that's on the label - 60% fail to land within the allowable margin of +/-10% and the more expensive "quality brands" are not better than the cheap ones, even if they had label claims of manufacturing under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions in Food and Drug Administration inspected facilities, and guarantees purity and potency! In the real world, theory and practice, or, rather, labelled and real berberine content seem to diverge... When timing matters, for berberine it's not well-researched, but... Opposing Effects of Resveratrol Depend on Dosage

While the hype about resveratrol appears to be over, it is still one of the cornerstones of many people seeking to improve health or promote longevity. If you belong to this group of people, you might find it interesting that without proper dosing, resveratrol may in fact do the exact opposite of what you were paying for. A recent review published in Human and Experimental Toxicology ( Calabrese. 2010 ) summarizes the literature as follows: The current assessment indicates that low concentrations of resveratrol can be potentially beneficial or harmful , depending on the endpoint of interest. The data suggest that low doses of resveratrol would have the capacity to increase the risk of tumor development of a number of organs based on its capacity to enhance cell proliferation in multiple human tumor cell lines. In contrast, a strong case can be made that low doses of resveratrol can be significantly cardio-protective . It is likely that these general conditions could occur simul...
