Hot News About Cold Tea: Cold Maté Tea Increases Energy Expenditure 2x More than Hot Maté | No Strings Attached?

Image
I don't want to spoil your beloved maté tea for you, but if you expect it to shed slabs of body fat off your frame, this belief may well spoil your fat loss efforts for you ;-) I've previously addressed the potential benefits of cold-brewing your coffee  and the effect of water temperature on the extraction of bioactive substances from coffee in my "Coffee 101" ( Moussa 2017 ). For (caffeinated) tea, I haven't done this yet... what I haven't done for either of the two is to address the effect of the beverages' temperature at consumption. In their latest RCT, Maufrais et al. ( 2018 ) did just that... more specifically, they "compare[d] the cardiovascular, metabolic and cutaneous responses to the ingestion of [Yerba Mate] at cold or hot temperature in healthy young subjects." Fasted AM Cardio - No Measurable Physiological Benefits in Terms of Fat Loss & Body Composition, Meta-Analysis Says

Image
Rope skipping is an excellent choice for HIIT cardio training... albeit, just like for so many others, the effects of doing it fasted have never been investigated. It has been debated for decades and still, the Australian researchers Daniel Hackett and Amanda D. Hagstrom are the first to attempt to answer the question "whether training in fasted compared to fed states leads to greater weight loss and whether this practice results in beneficial or detrimental changes in body composition" (Hackett 2017) by the means of a systematic review and meta-analysis. How's that? Well, if I tell you that Hacket & Hagstrom found only five RCTs to be included in their analysis there's probably no longer a need to answer this question. Is Air Frying Healthier Than Deep Frying? Which Oil's Best for Each Method and How Do They Compare to Cooking?

Image
Air- or deep-frying, what's healthier? For most people that's not even a real question... rightly so?  "That's even a question?" I know, I know... With the health aura surrounding air frying it appears to be hilarious to even base a complete episode of SuppVersity | True or False  on the question whether air frying is in fact so much healthier than deep frying, but listen up: a recent study from the University of Porto  says that "most chemical parameters were similar on both frying processes, including [pro-carcinogenic]  acrylamide content" (Santos 2017). Can it really be that the air frying devices are another overhyped kitchen device you don't really need? Carb Up to Burn More Fat!? True or False: High CHO Diet Allows for 64% Greater Intra-, Post- & Total Fat Oxidation

Image
You could use this exercise to deplete your glycogen levels before "cardio". The title alone will be considered an atrocity by Taubes' evangelists: "High-CHO diet increases post-exercise oxygen consumption after a supramaximal exercise bout" (Ferreira. 2016 | title of the paper in the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research ). I mean, more carbs = lower fat oxidation, that's what they've been told for years. And in fact, the title says "after a supramaximal exercise bout" and thus appears to leave enough room for the low-carb run to still burn significantly more total fat. Unfortunately (for Taubes and co.), though, that's not the case. Looking for more cutting edge exercise and supplementation science?
